What Should You Know About Chin Augmentation Recovery?

The main objective of chin augmentation surgery is to restructure weak chin, thus enhancing the overall profile of the face. While it may include altering or moving the bones, a more easier and common approach is to enclose a synthetic implant that is known to provide long term results. Experts have suggested some vital things that you should keep in mind about chin augmentation recovery.

  • Chin implant surgery includes a simple and straightforward recovery. You will be relieved of most of the bruising and swelling within 5 days to a week. You can easily get back to normal day routine and social activities, without worrying about any discomfort.
  • Adjunct surgery procedures can lead to longer healing time. Chin implant surgery is generally performed with jaw enhancement and liposuction.
  • It takes some time to complete recovery. You need to give around 12-14 week’s time for any numbness to resolve and the skin to re-drape to new contour.
  • It is helpful to undergo cold compressing, within 72 hours of surgery. The aim is to control the post-op bruising and swelling, allowing the patients to recover fast. To avoid injuries and cold burns, do not apply ice directly on the bare skin.
  • You may experience some sort of stiffness near the chin region for a few months. This is completely normal. Your skin undergoes a recovery process called reinnervation, in which the damaged nerves recoup from the trauma. This sensation can take time to diminish completely.
  • For at least 3-4 weeks, avoid any sort of trauma or pressure to the lower facial region. The objective is to permit tissue adherence around the treated region to prevent it from becoming palpable. After first few weeks of surgery, it is advisable to use a U-shaped pillow while sleeping.
  • For a couple of weeks or more, do not opt for weightlifting or any sort of rigorous activity. This way you can avoid traumatic effect that can cause implant shifting, reduce the risk of bleeding and allow proper healing as well as faster recovery.
  • To prevent the incision site from becoming darker with time, use sunscreen lotion for at least a period of 6 months. Reduce or avoid exposure to sun, in order to minimize the risk of unfavorable scarring and hyper-pigmentation.
  • Probability of complications in the hands of a qualified surgeon is too low. However, one should keep an eye for symptoms including common signs of infection, warmth in the incision site, pain and persistent swelling. Anything that goes beyond your bearing capacity should immediately be taken care of.
  • While in the recovery phase, many people would not like the idea of telling others they have gone through a surgery. It is normal to be diplomatic in such cases. You may convince people around you that the profile of your face has changed, due to shedding of extra pounds.
