Putting Volume Back Into Your Face For A Younger Look

When it comes to facial aging, there are 3 areas that come into play. First is the thinning and aging of facial skin, which is related to disruption and loss of collagen fibers. Next is the development of tissue sag or excess skin, and lastly, the fading of youthful contours and progression of hollowness due to loss of volume. Major part of deflation is a direct consequence of fatty tissue loss, as well as reduction in bone thickness.

How To Replenish Lost Volume

Putting volume back into the face can be achieved by common fillers such as Sculptra, Radiesse, Juvederm, Restylane and Voluma.  However, in majority of cases, fat augmentation is often the preferred option.

Why Fat Augmentation?

The fatty tissue used for this operation comes from the area above the hips, or patient’s abdomen or thighs. In order to avert the pain of liposuction, a moderate lipo-aspiration technique is employed, following which the fat is carefully prepared and placed into certain facial areas, using a micro-droplet technique that prevents contour irregularities, lumps and overfilling. In comparison to other fillers, the fat used in this process fits nicely on the face without moving or dropping.

This sort of integration involves growth of blood vessels to deliver nutrients and oxygen to the transferred fat, generating a long lasting effect. It also reflects a relatively natural appearance, around the eyes. From a positive perspective, loss of fatty tissue is replenished with another set of fatty tissues.

Merging With Other Procedures

Fat augmentation is often merged with laser resurfacing, facelifts and eyelid surgical procedures to get excellent results.  Volume replenishment along with these procedures goes a long way in benefitting the overall structure. For example, facelifts can optimize facial rejuvenation, eyelid surgery removes the excess skin and laser resurfacing corrects skin breakdown, thus contributing to counter-attack the effects of facial aging.

When Should Fillers Be Used?

Using fillers has an advantage over fat augmentation, when you want quick results without having to bear the downtime of a fortnight or a month, as in case of augmentation procedure.  Swelling can take time in the latter process, and may test your patience.  On the other hand, fillers are also considered as a better option, when rejuvenation is required only for certain specific areas i.e. lips, chin or temples. The process is much faster, and gives you instant results as compared to fat augmentation.

In spite of augmentation being a preferred choice for a long time now, using fillers is just as good an option, especially because it fits the purpose, budget, and the results you desire to have. The most important thing to note down here is the fact that volume replenishment, no matter what the process, will provide desirable outcomes in the context of facial rejuvenation.
