Laser Hair Removal vs. Waxing

Due to advances in technology, laser hair removal is growing in popularity among many women who want soft, smooth skin. But this form of treatment can be pricey, and the big question that many women are asking themselves is this: how does it stand up to traditional hair removal methods such as waxing?

The Effectiveness of Laser Hair Removal

The fact of the matter is that laser hair removal is revolutionary. Most patients who receive it are ecstatic with the results, which last for a long time. Women who use waxing to get rid of unwanted hair know from first-hand experience just how painful it can be. Worse is the fact that the hair grows back, and it does so quicker than desired. The good news about laser hair removal is that many of the women who have undergone the procedure will never need to wax again. Laser hair removal differs from waxing in that the laser pulses are used to destroy the hair follicles, without causing any harm to the surrounding skin.

But this benefit comes at a steep cost, at least initially. Getting your hair removed via laser will require multiple sessions, each of which will cost approximately $100 or more. Many patients do roughly eight sessions, which means you can expect to pay around $800 depending on various factors. However, while laser hair removal is indeed more expensive than wax in the short term, it is actually much cheaper in the long term. Let’s do some calculations.

Long Term Waxing Costs

The average price you will pay for a bikini wax is about $30. The majority of women get this waxing done every month, so in a year this is $360. Over a period of 5 years that is $1,800. Bear in mind that with waxing the hair will continue to grow back, so the amount you spend will continue to increase over the course of your lifetime, into the tens of thousands and beyond. Laser hair removal, on the other hand, will cost three times as much for a single session during the short term, but after about eight sessions your hair will not grow back which means the treatment will no longer be needed.

This means that over the course of ten to twenty years you will save tens of thousands of dollars that can be spent on other things. When you factor in the cost of cosmetic procedures, it is important to look at both short term and long term costs. Most people pay attention to short term costs, but those who are shrewd will always think long term. The truth is that there is no comparison between laser hair removal and waxing. Laser technology is cutting edge and the treatment lasts for much longer. You don’t have to worry about the pain or hassle that is associated with waxing, and you will be confident in knowing that when you head to the beach wearing your bikini, your body will be free of unwanted hair!
