A Tummy Tuck Does More Than Just Aesthetic Magic!

Tummy tuck, also known asAbdominoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery process that stiffens the muscles and eliminates loosened skin and fat from the abdomen, so as to make it appear toned and flat.  This is popularly associated with post-pregnancy makeover, which allows the mother to restore her figure after pregnancy, to counter effect the extreme loss of weight in a relatively short period of time. In the last the decade or so, this procedure has been practiced in higher percentages, mostly for cosmetic purpose, but there are a few medical benefits associated with it, as well.

Easy Maintenance of Weight Loss

According to a study, researchers have found that people undergoing bariatric surgery i.e. reducing the size of the stomach in order to lose weight are more likely to maintain the lost weight post-operation by combining tummy tuck with the surgery.

Diminution of Stress Urinary Incontinence

Stress Urinary Incontinence or SUI is a bladder control problem that a woman may develop after a vaginal birth. It is associated with irrepressible leakage brought on by exercising, sneezing or coughing. Although it can be cured without a surgery, a patient who requires intensive care can undergo tummy tuck operation to aid physical recovery, especially those who have not had a caesarian section. During this process, a minor obstruction is created in the bladder by using a soft tissue near the pelvic region, thereby reducing incontinence.

Enhanced Posture And Abdominal Tone

After multiple pregnancies or losing a lot of weight, muscles in the stomach region can become bloated, and cannot be reduced only by diet and exercise.  The tummy tuck surgery flattens the abdomen, by tightening the weak muscles, and shedding off excess fat and skin.

Lordosis or swaying back is a common phenomenon associated with weak abdominal muscles. After the surgery, patients may notice enhanced posture due to tightening of muscles supporting the spine. This helps a long way in alleviating any sort of back pain that you may develop over time.

Ventral Hernia Correction

This condition arises when a pocket or sack is formed following the breakage of abdominal tissue or intestine through the abdominal wall.  There can be a number of reasons behind it, including some surgeries like appendectomies or abdominal weakness due to massive weight loss. There is a striking similarity between the underlying symptoms that require a ventral hernia correction and that of abdominoplasty. Both of them correct skin pressure and weakened abdominal muscles, since the latter is primarily a cause of hernia.

Once you develop a ventral hernia, there are chances of it happening again and again. Combining tummy tuck to the hernia operation does not only strengthen the abdominal wall, but also prevent it from reappearing. This combination is not only medically safe, but very practical, given the fact it reduces expenses and recovery time.It is also important to note that typical Abdominoplasty is an invasive surgery, and its recovery can take several weeks, but the results achieved are worth the dollar spent.
