Hand Rejuvenation: What Options Do You Have?

While cosmetic surgery often focuses on rejuvenating the face, the hands often age more rapidly. The reason for this is because the hands are more delicate than other parts of the body. The skin of the hands is also directly affected by sunlight and other elements, which can lead to dark spots. Even if a patient receives cosmetic surgery for their face, if their hands are left untreated they will betray their age. Fortunately, there are a variety of ways to rejuvenate the hands, some of which are non-invasive. While some treatments are affordable, others are a bit more costly.

Growth Factor Substances

Growth factor substances are a type of protein/steroid which will stimulate the cells, leading to their division and growth. Your skin will absorb these substances, usually in the form of a cream, and this will cause fresh and robust skin cells to develop. While growth factor substances have been very effective in rejuvenating aging hands, they can be costly.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy can be used to rejuvenate aging hands. It does this through the creation of tiny holes within the skin. Rather than damaging the hands, the holes cause growth within the collagen layer, which leads to younger looking skin. Concentrating the laser can also remove the pigments that cause liver spots. Of all the treatments available for the hands, lasers are the most effective, and the most expensive.

Sunscreen

While many people use sunscreen to prevent damage to their skin, it can also be used to rebuild it. For some people sunlight can be harmful as it blocks collagen chain regrowth, a process that should happen naturally. Once the hands are protected from sunlight they can acquire a younger appearance.

Injectable and Wax Baths

Injectable fillers are designed to simulate collagen, making the skin plumper while concealing the veins beneath. The fillers used to treat sagging hands are very similar to the ones used for facial lines. Wax baths are a treatment that can be performed at home, and in the past was extremely expensive. The wax creates a layer which provides protection to your hands while functioning as a filler to reduce wrinkles.

Basic Moisturizers

Non-scented moisturizers are a great way to help aging skin rebuild itself. While not as effective as laser treatment or injectables it will protect your hands from the many environmental factors which cause them to appear aged and dried. Adding moisturizers to the hands will also provide them with greater volume, which will help with collagen that has been lost. However these moisturizers will not replace the collagen.

As you can see, there are many options available when it comes to the treatment of the hands. This area of the body is one of the most overlooked, but good cosmetic surgeons will educate their patients on the importance of rejuvenating their hands along with their face and other areas of the body, because the skin of the hands are highly delicate, and because they age more rapidly they require special care.
